Choosing the Right Equipment

Tech-Extra can help you choose personal computer equipment that is right for you.  We encourage you to communicate with us if you have any questions regarding any device you are interested in or need advice on the type and level of device that suit your personal needs and budget.

For detailed information, please see: Useful Tip > Important Specs of a Computer; also: What to Consider When Buying a Computer.

Used (Pre-Owned) and Refurbished Items

This category includes used (pre-owned) devices, accessories and parts from pre-owned equipment.  Where applicable, these items are tested for functionality by Tech-Extra technicans.  Used computers are updated with a late version of operating system and basic software.

This category includes used (pre-owned) devices, accessories and such type of equipment that have been tested thoroughly, repaired and/or refurbished if necessary.  Reconditioned/Refurbished computers are updated with a late version of operating system and basic software.

This category includes used (pre-owned) items that have physical or technical defects or unusual functionalities.  Used imperfect computers are updated with a late version of operating system and basic software, except in cases where there are issues of compatibility.  We include such details in our listings based on our assessment and we discount these items accordingly.

Only legal versions of operating system and software are installed on all used and refurbished devices sold by Tech-Extra.  We generally install the latest version of operating system assessed to function normally with each specific older device.

It is the responsibility of the buyer to inform us of their particular use of a device or of any software they intend to use with it so that we can make necessary installation and/or adjustments.  If a different version of operating system is preferred or required for a specific use, Tech-Extra can install a more suitable, legal version at the time of purchase at no extra charge except if additional installation and device modification are required.  However, we normally allow a grace period of 30 days from the date of purchase for this option, after which is subject to servicing charges.

We only install software that came originally (if available) with each device, except in the event that other software is required for the basic functionality of a particular device.  If additional software is requested, a fee will be applied based on the type of software to be installed.  Tech-Extra is not responsible for the cost of any software keys or licenses charged by software companies or other parties.

It is important for us that our clients purchase items that are suitable for their particular needs.  Within 60 days of the purchase date, as long as the purchased item has not been damaged or altered, we can apply the paid amount towards upgrading to a more suitable item.

Used and Reconditioned Items obviously do not include a manufacturer warranty.  Tech-Extra does take responsibility for the normal functionalily of such products purchased from us, based on the information provided by and to the clients or any agreement made at the time of purchase.

As a standard rule, if an unexpected defect or malfunction is reported within 60 days after a purchase, we will fix the issue if possible, at no cost.  If it is impossible for us to solve the issue, we will either apply the paid amount towards the exchange for an other item or refund the money.

If an unexpected issue occurs more than 60 days and within a reasonable amount of time after the purchase of an item, depending on the issue, we may accept (at our own discretion) to fix the issue or apply the paid amount towards the exchange for an other item but we will not refund the money.

See also “Used Batteries” below.

The percentage of remaining life of used (pre-owned) batteries, primarily those for laptops and tablets, is measured with the use of software and may not be 100% accurate.  In many cases we are able to determine roughly the time duration per charge of a battery installed in a specific device, which usually varies from one device to another.  Older devices such as laptops and tablets usually require more power to operate and will cause a battery to discharge considerably faster than newer devices.  We include the information available in the specifications listed for each device.

We do not sell individual batteries with a percentage of its remaining life under fifty percent (50%).  We generally price a used battery at a 50% and 75% of the cost of a new one, based on the percentage of its remaining life, respectively.  If a battery installed in a device purchased from Tech-Extra rates at less than 50% of its remaining life, it is not covered by any warrantee.  In such case, the selling price of a device will have been adjusted or reduced accordingly.  Should a buyer request us to replace such battery with a new one, the buyer must cover the full price of the new battery, except in the case of a special agreement.

Used (pre-owned) batteries purchased individually or installed in a device purchased from Tech-Extra are subject to a four-month limited warrantee with us from the date of purchase.  If a battery is damaged as a result of abuse or negligence following its purchase, this warrantee will be void.  If a used battery under a Tech-Extra warrantee is to be replaced with a new one, we will cover fifty percent (50%) of the cost for the replacement and the client is responsible for the other 50%.  If we have a used battery available in stock, we can replace it at no charge with a renewed four-month limited warrantee.

Please note that we do not keep a large inventory of spare used batteries in stock.  Should we need to order a new battery, the estimate time to receive it is usually about a week but may vary according to the type and availability.

Purchase of New Items

This category includes new devices, accessories and parts for computers and similar equipment.

The category includes new items that have physical or technical defects or unusual functionalities.  We include such details in our listings based on our assessment and discount these items accordingly.  New, imperfect items are generally, but not necessarily, subject to manufacturer’s warrantee.  If a manufacturer’s warrantee cannot apply or be honored, Tech-Extra’s standard policy for used and reconditioned equipment will govern, except in cases of special agreements.

Tech-Extra will be more than happy to help you choose the type and level of device that suit your personal needs.  Should it be determined that you need to upgrade from a new device within 30 days from the date of purchase from Tech-Extra, still in a new condition and with the original packaging, we can apply the paid amount towards upgrading to a more suitable item.

New items are subject to manufacturer’s warrantee.  Tech-Extra does not assume responsibility beyond such warrantee, except in the case of a special agreement.  However, we will do our best to help with the procedures required.

Any unexpected defect or malfunction must be reported within the period of time stated on a manufacturer’s warrantee after the date of purchase.  If within our possibility and without breaching the rules of servicing stated on the warrantee, we will attempt fix the issue, at no cost within 60 days of the date of purchase.  If the issue is not fixable, rules stated on the manufacturer’s warrantee will govern.

If an unexpected issue is reported more than 60 days or and within a reasonable amount of time after the purchase of an item, depending on the issue, we will attempt to fix the issue with a service charge, if it is within our possibility and without breaching the rules of servicing stated on the warrantee.

See also “New Batteries” below.

New batteries are subject to the manufacturer’s warrantee and, as a guideline, are usually covered for a period of one year.  Tech-Extra does not necessarily or usually assess the percentage of the remaining life or duration per charge of new batteries sold individually or installed in a device sold by us.

Please note that we do not keep a large inventory of new batteries in stock.  Should we need to order a new battery, the estimate time to receive it is usually about a week but may vary according to the type and availability.  A replacement battery covered by a manufacturer’s warrantee is sometime subject to a “Return Authorization” which may result in some delay.
